Case Study - A multi-national concern

This is the story of a branch office of a multi-national concern, which was initially looking to secure its own AS400 but which ended up implementing the Bsafe/Global Security product in corporate offices throughout the world.

It all started a little over a year ago in Milan, at a conference dedicated to security issues. I came across a new software for managing and controlling security on the AS400 iSeries that was being advertised near at IBM stand.

Curious about the fact that IBM was promoting somebody else's software, and about the source of the software itself, I decided to go inside and obtain some more information.

I quickly realized that this was a fine piece of software, with an appealing GUI and a series of functions accessible even to those who possessed only limited knowledge of the OS400 operating system.

I was impressed that much of the security management functionality offered by the AS400 operating system was within the reach of a mouse click.

I asked IBM for a trial installation on my test AS400 and, one by one, I started checking all the security functions promised by Bsafe/Global Security.

After testing it for a month, I was convinced that this was exactly the software I have been looking for, and that it had certainly helped us increase the security level on our AS400 system.

I decided to purchase Bsafe/Global Security and installed it on my production AS400, immediately starting to configure the various modules, with the intention of getting results that would justify as soon as possible the purchase cost, which I did not find excessive to begin with.

Last spring, at the annual conference for security managers, organized by our head office with the participation of companies from all over the world, I presented to the world security managers my accumulated experience with Bsafe/Global Security in Italy.

I don't know if it was my enthusiasm with Bsafe/Global Security that attracted out General Manager's attention, but for the following months he charged me with researching, testing and comparing at least three security management software packages for the AS400 iSeries. After this, a team of technicians would select one package that would become the official security management software for the company's AS400 machines throughout the world.

This was not an easy decision to make, but in the end the choice fell on Bsafe/Global Security: it offered a good price/quality ratio; its GUI made it an innovative piece of software and it was a product undergoing a continuous process of evolution, adding new modules and improving on the existing ones.

The experience accumulated with Bsafe/Global Security in Italy allowed me to take responsibility for the installation of the first Bsafe configuration on other AS400s operating worldwide.

Now, after three months, I can declare myself satisfied with the work performed with the product. In fact, I have now successfully installed it on two AS400s in Poland, two in Thailand, one in Hong Kong and two in Ireland.

Before the end of the year I'll be in Australia, where another pair of AS400s are expecting Bsafe/Global Security to increase their level of security.
