IBM i Security - Bsafe

Bsafe Information Systems is a leading vendor of data security software and has been producing IBM i security products since the late 1990s. The first major IBM midrange security product for the then-called AS400 range was released in 2001 and was called Bsafe/Global Security. Global Security achieved a rapid following due to its intuitive Windows GUI and the wealth of IBM i security and auditing features packaged within it.
The Sarbanes Oxley Law of 2002 and other major regulations such as PCI, HIPAA and Basel II dictated the direction of the products and their features. Below is a brief summary of all Bsafe IBM i security and auditing products.

Bsafe IBM i Security Products

Bsafe/Enterprise Security

Bsafe/Enterprise Security is a product to implement the main IBM i security tasks as simply as possible. It is designed with the non-technical administrator in mind but equally serves experienced IBM i security officers by making their work more efficient. The product encapsulates important auditing and security definition tasks in a single administrator console bringing IBM i security functionality to one place. User profile definitions, object authority, system audit, file audit and administrator audit are just some of the modules included in the product package. See Bsafe/Enterprise Security for IBM i. See Bsafe/Enterprise Security for IBM i.

Policy Compliance Manager

The Bsafe/Policy Compliance Manager is the way to handle your IBM i security policy and check the live definitions in your system against policy templates. Four different template formats can be built incorporating user profile definitions, object authority definitions, IBM i system values and TCP/IP configuration. But that's not all. Settings can be not just checked, but fixed too! You can use your templates to fix the actual definitions in the system to comply with the definitions in the templates. Comprehensive reporting included. See Bsafe/Policy Compliance Manager.

IP Packet Lockdown

A quick and simple path to implementing IP packet filtering on IBM i computers. An easy to-understand green screen interface to restrict traffic in and out of your IBM i by specifying IP addresses and port numbers. Ports and IPs can be identified and named to clarify definitions and audit reports. Features include selective enabling and disabling of rules and a default ‘safety net rule'. The audit log can be viewed on-line or exported to the Bsafe/Cross Platform Audit. See Bsafe/IP Packet Lockdown.

Security Assessment Tool

The Bsafe/Security Assessment tool gives a summary and statistical overview of the state of your IBM i security. It looks at security definitions such as security system values, the number of power users and checks if ports are open in listening mode. The assessment tool also tests the ability to access the IBM i from your PC. See Bsafe/Security Assessment Tool.

Field Masking

Implement data privacy using sensitive field masking. Using masks, selected fields can be blocked from view for different users at the file level, making the product application independent. A variety of options for data synchronization are available between the original file and the mask to handle all types of application. A number of different masks can be built for a file. See Bsafe/Sensitive Field Masking.

Crypto Complete

A complete data encryption solution for on-line data and backups. Key management allowing different users to have different management roles, key generation, choice of key standards (AES256, AES198 or AES128), comprehensive auditing including reports of key administration activity and denial of functions. See Bsafe/Crypto Complete.
